Together Can Be Streamed, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Partnership.

We present a test for long-term couples who appreciate horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit just made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like standard body horror, but within Together resides a deep contemplation about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a enduring union.

The narrative begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence starts to affect the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The entire film is a slow burn of scares, interspersing elements of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). Shanks skillfully blends these components seamlessly and presents them in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and removed from his network of friends. He fears the idea of completely losing his sense of self in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and relies on Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they still love one another. They still laugh together, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes provide a perfect parallel to the relationship narrative. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you see yourself in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
