Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
